(PCM) On Dancing with the Stars, Brooke Burke-Charvet and Tom Bergeron always keep things under control. But, now Burke-Charvet finds herself in an admittedly “out of control” situation.
To speak directly to her fans, Burke-Charvet released a video on YouTube revealing that she has thyroid cancer and discussing her plans for surgery to remove her thyroid. The 41-year-old mother of four explains in the video, “I need to have a thyroidectomy, which means that I’m going to have a nice big scar right here across my neck.”
Burke-Charvet has scheduled the surgery, but doesn’t specify for when. In the video, Burke-Charvet assures everyone that “I’m ready to deal with it, and I’m going to be fine” and “I’m going to be a really good patient and I’m going to do everything that I need to do.”
While at first she was shocked by the news, she is determined to make “a positive out of this negative thing” as she moves forward with strength, confidence and the doctor’s insight and optimism that “this is a happily-ever-after kind of thing.”
The thyroid, located in the front of the neck, releases several hormones that influence metabolism, growth and development. The tiny nodule on her thyroid was spotted during a regular physical and follow-up tests revealed the lump to be cancerous.
