The show that has kept us entertained every Thursday evening for the past six weeks wanted to go out with a bang for their super season finale, saving some of the best known celebrity bachelors for the final episode. Tonight, we had the pleasure of watching actor Dean Cain, football star Ndamukong Suh, cosmetic surgeon Dr. Robert Nettles and supermodel Tyson Beckford search for love.
But before we got too invested in those bachelors, we caught up with the four from last week. Finesse and his date hit it off on the flying trapeze and have even seen each other again, Rob and his date had a dinner filled with awkward silences and a failure to connect, Gronk and his date exchanged numbers after touring LA and Stephen won the superlative of most romantic, as he and his date couldn’t keep their hands off each other and have been talking on the phone ever since, as he described it, one of the best dates of his life.
We expected even more excitement from this week’s episode given the pretty stellar line-up of bachelors and while they were all more endearing than we expected (yes, even Dr. Robert), there was a noticeable lack of banter between the bachelors. It almost seemed like they were being too nice to one another. I mean, part of what makes this show so entertaining is the playful teasing and back-and-forth between the four men as they try and beat each other out for the girl.
That doesn’t mean there weren’t some great moments, though. In fact, each of the guys still managed to shine in their own ways:
DEAN CAIN
Can the man catch a break? We know he’s Superman, but he’s been involved with some other great projects, too. It seemed like every woman who addressed him made some Superman remark and we could see when Dean was just laughing to be polite. (We don’t blame you, Dean!) He was also trying to be one of the aforementioned nice guys by saying to the first girl he didn’t want to disparage his competitors with his reasoning to which Cat immediately responded: please do!
He eventually found his groove and brought the humor when he gave reasons for choosing him, like “Suh is too young for you, Tyson’s too gorgeous for anyone, so pick me,” and reasons for not turning around, like he was once engaged to someone from her town and he “dodged the bullet.” We also kind of loved him even more for politely trying to back peddle out of own of his spins, by letting Suh butt in and say “she might as well just take me.” The awkwardness that ensued when she chose Dean was priceless – and also led to her leaving in the speed round. When it came down to it, Amanda, who is supposedly known for her butt, won over Superman by admitting her superpower would be the human lie detector test, because she’s big into honesty and values. We imagine her assets also helped him with his choice.
Final Question: Dean was Superman on Lois and Clark. If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
How the Date Went: After an exciting time wine tasting, Dean and Amanda ended up leaving the vineyard together, leaving the cameras behind and getting to know one another even more.
Suh started off quiet and a little bit shy on pulling his love handle and winning over the girl, but he definitely won the audience over by the end of it. Some of the first reasons he gave for turning around for a girl was that he liked her laidback vibe and her spunk, too. Come on, doesn’t he sound like a nice guy you’d like to hang out with? He did have a few speed bumps in acquiring his initial 3 when people like Tyson would turn around. Even when we thought they’d make a better match for Suh, it seemed as though almost anytime Tyson was a potential date, they jumped at the chance.
But Suh still held his own, making us smile when he would react to the different football teams the ladies were fans of. While none said the Detroit Lions, he did say that he thought he could sway a Ravens fan. He was the last one to fill up his initial dating pool, choosing Diana as his final lady when he heard she was in the Air Force and possibly on a lingerie football team. She made the choice very easy for him when she opened up about her dad having MS and how she donates to the research foundation for it. When presented with the question of a “cat or family woman,” he went with family.
Final Question: Suh donated 2.6 million to his alma mater, the University of Nebraska. What’s the most generous thing you’ve ever done for someone?
How the Date Went: Suh and Diana had a good time together when they went on a miniature golf date, but that doesn’t necessarily mean they’ll be flying across the country to see one another.
DR. ROBERT NETTLES
I admit, Dr. Robert was much better this time around than when we first met him on Millionaire Matchmaker. He came off much more as a person of substance rather than someone who wants to surgically change or “enhance” every person he encounters as he continually chose girls who were interested in science and intellectual conversation. He wasn’t totally free from teasing though, I mean, they did refer to him as Dr. Robert the entire night. (Really, doctor, really?) He had a few funny moments throughout the evening, a memorable head of hair and even a nice interchange between he and Suh when they both turned around for one of the ladies and confessed, “I think this is definitely Suh. I don’t even have a chance.” (He was right.)
But the girls who did choose him seemed pleased as did Dr. Robert (the name, it never gets old!). He seemed to have a decent initial pool of girls and continued to flash his extraordinarily bright smile throughout the speed round. When it came down the final question, he got two rather weighty answers, but it was Jenny who ultimately had his attention when she explained how losing her grandparents was hard but also gave her a new perspective on appreciating life. He appreciated that notion and explaining, “attraction is immediate, connection is enduring,” chose Jenny.
Final Question: A motorcycle accident sent Dr. Robert on his current success. Describe an event that has changed your life for the better.
How the Date Went: While Dr. Robert and Jenny got touchy feeling with their shared massage, both parties didn’t feel the same way. Dr. Robert couldn’t get enough, but unfortunately, Jenny didn’t reciprocate.
Oh, the man is most certainly a supermodel for a reason. He is gorgeous and has only become more smooth and charming over the years. Whether it was his extremely deep reasoning as to pick him because they were both wearing the same color or his reaction to the audience’s help, Tyson always had us smiling. He was the first one to really break out the banter between the bachelors as he groaned “no” when one girl picked Dean over himself. He also turned around for one of the oldest single ladies that has been featured on the show and we were kind of surprised to see him turn for her to begin with. But that’s the danger of being Tyson – if you turn, you’ll probably by the ladies choice.
Tyson also stood out in the speed choice round when he asked some pretty funny questions, none more so than when he randomly asked Nishi, “what do you feel about stem cell research?” Surprisingly, Nishi had a full response. Perhaps this was a sign of their deep connection because she was the one he ended up choosing for his date. But that didn’t mean we didn’t like seeing him contemplate, especially when it involves removing his glasses, walking up the ladies, commenting on their beauty and ultimately choosing hid dream date.
Final Question: Tyson is a model and often judged solely on his looks. What are you unfairly judged about?
How the Date Went: Tyson gets to say he had the biggest love connection of the night with Nishi as they bonded on an intellectual level over dinner. Not only did they exchange phone numbers, but they already have plans to see each other again.
While the banter may not have been the best of the season, Cat Deeley has managed to shine brighter with each episode. She was very, very entertaining tonight, perhaps balancing out how quiet it tended to be on the bachelor front.
Yes, the season was short and it’s sad to think that we won’t be tuning in for another round next Thursday, but it was a nice taste of love, laughter, fun and attractive celebrity bachelors that we hope will make it to a second season! Sometimes easy viewing is exactly what you want and what you need. And, really, who doesn’t want to watch when dreams and dream dates really do come true?
So what did you think? Who was your favorite bachelor? Would you tune in for a second season? Who would you want to see in the spinning chairs? Sound off in the comments below!

Jenny wasn’t the one who went on the date with “Dr. Robert,” it was Nicole! Jenny did have the answer about the grandparents, but he didn’t pick her at the end!
