Billie Joe Armstrong, Green Day‘ s singer and guitarist, started out in the dark clubs of Oakland’s East Bay and has made a name for himself with a series of recent concept albums about political chicanery, love, war and religious intolerance. But this tough punk has a soft side, in fact a guilty pleasure for the NBC show The Voice. He’s ready to come out and tell the world because he’s joining Christina Aguilera’s team as a mentor for the upcoming fall season!
Armstrong and his family are big fans of the show and think that it has such success because ”it’s not molding artist, it’s just giving them a little big of guidance and direction without giving them a complete makeover.” They began taping the show on Wednesday, and the rocker said working with Christina is “a lot of fun”. “The Voice”, which is known for giving career boosts, will help Armstrong since he’s releasing a trio of albums over the next five months with his band.
As celebrity race between the reality tv shows keeps escalating, it is certainly bringing the wow factor. The addition of Mariah Carey to “American Idol” as well as Britney Spears and Demi Lovato to “X Factor,” the already star-studded “Voice” is leading way. The show, whose panel features Blake Shelton and Cee Lo Green, has announced that the upcoming season’s other mentors will include Rob Thomas , Mary J. Blige and Michael Buble.
Look out for the first episode of the fall season of “The Voice” September 1oth on NBC.
