(PCM) Over the course of five episodes, Food Network will displace seven chefs away from their kitchens and drop them in some of the most extreme locations for the second season of Extreme Chef. The scorching deserts of California to the exotic jungles of Thailand will test the chef’s physical prowess, mental toughness and culinary skills as they tackle seemingly impossible culinary challenges. TV veteran and seasoned world traveler Marsh Mokhtari will host this riveting season.

Each episode includes challenges judged by a rotating panel of notable guest judges, with the bottom two chefs facing off in a final showdown to determine which chef stays for another grueling week. In the end, one chef can pride himself as the most Extreme while taking home a $50,000 grand prize. Special guest judges this season include Simon Majumdar (Next Iron Chef judge, food journalist), Ben Sargent (host of Cooking Channel’s Hook, Line & Dinner), and Troy Johnson (host of Crave, food critic and journalist).

When the show kicks off August 16, the seven competing chefs will begin where the world ends: in a post-apocalyptic wasteland. Really it’s Salton City, California, but it’s nonetheless an abandoned wasteland. There, the chefs will have to scavenge for their ingredients and tools, meaning creating cooking tools and start a fire – with only 60 minutes! After that pressure and the use of freeze-dried foods, one chef won’t survive.

So brush up on T.S. Eliot and be ready for some extreme conditions and competitions to get underway! You won’t want to miss a second of it.

Season Premiere of Extreme Chef airs Thursday, August 16 at 10/9c on Food Network.
