Six years ago, Deputy Police Chief Brenda Leigh Johnson, established herself as a force to be reckoned with on the Los Angeles streets. Brought to life by Kyra Sedgwick, the sweet but stern Johnson has some interesting and sometimes questionable methods of catching her perpetrators, usually backing them into a corner where there is no way of escape. Brenda’s tactics however, have recently come under fire, and the L.A.P.D.’s Major Crimes unit may have finally come to an end.
With Johnson’s entire career on the line, the once family-like dynamic of the L.A.P.D. is in peril. And the relationships between the police officers are guaranteed to go through some huge changes over the next coming months.
Kyra Sedgwick’s co-stars bring life and interesting story lines to the television series as well, such as J.K. Simmons as Brenda’s current boss, Assistant Police Chief Will Pope, who often proves to be an ally for Johnson in times of trouble while dealing with his own issues as well. G.W. Bailey also stars as Lieutenant Provenza, an older cop who still manages to get himself into some humorous scrapes. Detective Sergeant David Gabriel, played with incredible realism by Corey Reynolds, was once Johnson’s right hand man but now is wary to help her as the investigation into her career deepens and more is revealed.
