How SMASHing! The lovely Jennifer Hudson will be starring on this NBC hit show for its upcoming second season.

Karen (Katharine McPhee) and Ivy (Megan Hilty) already had a hard enough time duking it out for the part of Marilyn last season. Then matters got worse when Uma Thurman’s character gave them even more competition. (Although Thurman’s character proved that it is sometimes about who you know and not how you sound.)

And now imagine throwing an Oscar and Grammy-winning diva to the mix? Not only did she win an Oscar in real-life, but she will be playing a Tony-Award winning Broadway star. Yikes! Talk about raising the stakes. Hudson will play Veronica Moore, and start off by appearing in the second episode.

According to E! Online, the Chairman of NBC Entertainment, Robert Greenblatt, is thrilled to have Hudson on the show. He explains that her character will “represent someone who reached their Broadway dream but also paid a price for it.”

Will Derek Wills let Hudson be his star? Will Hudson SMASH the “dreams” of these other “girls?” Tune in next season to find out.
