Conan on TBS
Comedian, writer, and performer Conan O’Brien hosts TBS’ late night talk show, Conan. Airing weeknights at 11/10c, Conan is a traditional late night talk show that draws its humor from current events, news, political figures, and celebrities.
Conan hosted The Tonight Show on NBC for 7 months in 2009 before he signed a $45 million contract with NBC to leave the show in order for Jay Leno to reprise his role as The Tonight Show host. The conflict between Conan, Leno, and NBC was widely publicized and became known as the late night talk show wars. During his last nights hosting The Tonight Show Conan mercilessly made fun of NBC, making his dislike of the network and Jay Leno well known by joking about NBC’s ratings and telling jokes at Leno’s expense, saying “Hosting The Tonight Show has been a fulfillment of a life long dream for me, and I just want to say to the kids out there watching: you can do anything you want in life. Unless Jay Leno wants to do it too.”
The conflict only helped Conan, gaining him support from his fans as well as fellow celebrities and sparking the Team Coco campaign. The huge outpouring of love from Conan’s fans inspired him to go on a comedy tour called The Legally Prohibited from Being Funny on Television Tour, where he announced that he would be hosting a late night talk show on TBS.
Conan’s contract with NBC allowed him to start working for another network in September of 2010, and on November 8, 2010, Conan premiered on TBS. The show has proved successful, With the premiere of Conan scoring better ratings than Leno’s Tonight show, David Letterman’s Late Show, and both John Stewart’s and Stephen Colbert’s late night shows on Comedy Central. In 2011, Conan was nominated for 4 Emmy Awards, including Outstanding Variety, Musical, or Comedy Series and Outstanding Writing for a Variety, Music, or Comedy Series.
With guests like Tom Hanks, Jon Hamm, Harrison Ford, Mark Wahlberg, Eva Mendes, Ricky Gervais and Charlize Theron, Conan keeps his show up to date and fresh. You can catch Conan on TBS Monday through Thursday at 11pm/10c.
