The Top 12 (minus Philip and Jessica) open the show with Runaway Baby. How cute. They’re all dressed in white.
Phillip and Jessica enter, as we’re informed that a NEW WORLD RECORD was set, with 132 million votes!
On to clips of the judges during the audition process. Thank goodness we didn’t have to see Steven’s inappropriate comment to Shannon Magrane’s dad again.
Joshua Ledet went on to sing Elton John’s Take It To The Pilot, and was joined onstage by Fantasia, who apparently split the side seams of her outfit. Oh, it was supposed to look like that? Mantasia and Fantasia then screeched their way through the song.
More clips, this time Jimmy Iovine calling J-Lo ‘Jessica”. A lot. It’s his daughter’s name, BTW.
The Ladies of the Top 12 performed a medley consisting of Ain’t Nobody, Through the Fire and I’m Every Woman, and were joined by Chaka Khan. Chaka’s catsuit was supported by Spanx, and the Spanx threatened to cause a wardrobe malfunction by pushing her girls out of her top. She still looked better than Fantasia, though.
The Ford Music Video was a tribute to the finalists, and Ford gave tickets to the finale to Jessica and Phillip’s musical mentors. And they gave the mentors keys to 2 new Ford Escapes, Jessica and Phillip got cars, too.
Rihanna performed Where You Been.
We were then treated to the world of Steven Tyler‘s dressing room, complete with his sloth. Yes, I said his sloth.
Jessica once again sang I Will Always Love You. I kept waiting for Jennifer Hudson, but waited in vain.
The Guys of the Top 12 performed a medley consisting of Coming to America, Cracklin’ Rosie and I’m a Believer. Of course they were joined by Neil Diamond for Sweet Caroline.
More clips, this time of all the times Randy uses the phrase “You could sing the phone book.” The Top 12 sang the phone book. Cute.
J-Lo performed, and she had some strange baggy-in-the-crotch pants on. She sang Goin’ In and Follow the Leader, and was joined by Lil John and Wisin Y Yandel.
Hollie Cavanagh sang You’ll Never Walk Alone, and was joined by Jordin Sparks.
The Top 12 Guys then did a tribute to Robin Gibb, with a medley of Bee Gees songs. RIP Robin.
Jessica‘s back, and this time she was joined by Jennifer Holliday for I’m Telling You (I’m Not Going). WOW! But it did serve to show the difference between a woman and a girl singing the song, though both are powerhouses.
YAY! Aerosmith performed Legendary Child and Walk This Way! Now THAT’S an Idol Finale performance!
Jessica and Phillip performed Joe Cocker’s Love Lift Us Up Where We Belong.
C’mon already…we want results! Phillip said it’s been an honor to be on stage with everyone, the band and the fans. Jessica basically said “What Phillip said,” and thanked the whole American Idol crew and the fans.
FINALLY! Dim the Lights……And the Winner of Season 11 is:
PHILLIP PHILLIPS!!!!!!!!!!!! YAY!!!!!!!! Scotty McCreery brought him his trophy and his guitar, and Phillip started his new singer Home, but broke down in tears, and left the stage to go to his family for a group hug.
Phillip has reportedly been battling health issues this whole season, and will reportedly now take time for much-needed surgery. Speedy recovery, Phillip! I look forward to hearing you on the radio!
So, that wraps up American Idol Season 11. Thanks for checking in, reading, and bearing with my commentary! See ya next year!
