American Idol: Top 9 Results
Breaking News! Steven Tyler will be touring with Aerosmith this summer!More Breaking News! No group sing tonight! I guess last nights trios were more than enough.
Jonny Lang, Mariah Carey, Carrie Underwood, and Lifehouse sent Twitter messages to Phillip Phillips, Joshua Ledet, Skylar Laine and Colton Dixon complimenting them on their performances. Eric Benet came on stage to personally commend DeAndre. Nice.
On to the Ford Music Video, and then clips of the Top 9 moving from the Contestant Hotel to the Idol Mansion in the Hollywood Hills.
We’re all tuned in for results, so after about 11 minutes…Results, with Jimmy Iovine weighing in as only he can.
Up first: Elise, Phillip and Hollie. Jimmy said that Elise did herself and the show a lot of good, and that her hair, clothes and performance all came together. He said she deserved to stay. Phillip has Stevie Nicks believing in him, and according to Jimmy, Stevie is rarely wrong. He said Phillip’s performance was flawless. Jimmy thinks that Hollie has a beautiful sound, but lacks experience. She is technically right, but has no emotion in her songs.
Results: Hollie is the Bottom 3. Phillip and Elise are SAFE!
Nikki Minaj then performed Starship, and was a major wardrobe malfunction waiting to happen.
More results, with Colton, Joshua and Heejun awaiting their fates. Jimmy thought that Colton was good, but not good enough, as he lost his poise when he became emotional. Jimmy thought that Joshua only delivered at 85%, because he also lost it when he got emotional. He was happy to see that Heejun made a comeback, but said it wasn’t enough, pointing out that Heejun doesn’t sing as well as the other 8 contestants. Ouch!
Results: Colton is SAFE! Joshua is SAFE! Heejun is in the Bottom 3. Oh, oh.
Scotty McCreery, Season 10 American Idol winner, performs Water Tower Town, and as a surprise, Jimmy presents him with his platinum record. I still think of MAD Magazine when I see this kid. Yep, Alfred E. Neuman.
Back to the results. Skylar, DeAndre and Jessica took their places with Ryan. Jimmy thought that Skylar always pulls it out somehow, but has to go to songs with more melody. He is neither going crazy nor disliking DeAndre, but thinks he needs more experience. Jimmy also thinks DeAndre needs to work his way in and pay his dues. Jimmy thinks that Jessica has harnessed experience for her age, and kept her composure when she got lost in the song.
Results: Jessica is SAFE! Skylar is in the Bottom 3, so DeAndre is SAFE!
Skylar is quickly sent back to safety, and so is Hollie. Heejun chooses to sing A Song For You for the judges’ save. J-Lo cried. Alas, it is not to be. Steven said, “Heejun, let the record show you saw this coming. Unfortunately, after talking, we’re going to have to let you go.”
I’m going to miss Heejun. True, he wasn’t one of the strongest of the singers, but he sure had personality.
And then there were 8.
Tune in next week when the theme will be the 80′s
