After a break-out first season, we had high hopes for what Covert Affairs would bring us in Season 2. And judging by the season premiere, we’re in store for another great season.

It was wonderful to see each character that we’ve grown attached to return to the screen. It was especially exciting to see the updated opening credits, which now include pictures of Anne Dudek, Sendhil Ramamurthy and Peter Gallagher (who is no longer listed as just a special guest star).

Immediately, the episode jumped into the action as we discovered Ben’s fate as a result of being shot in the back in the season finale. As if that finding wasn’t jarring enough, Annie and Ben’s time together was abruptly interrupted by an attempt on their lives. Man, it’s tough to be a CIA agent. Do they ever get downtime?

But perhaps the most exciting moment in the first half of the episode was when Auggie appeared on screen for the first time, welcoming Annie back from her time in Sri Lanka. I mean, who wouldn’t want to be welcomed back by Auggie? We sure would!

Auggie’s perpetual concern for Annie was nothing new but it was a great reminder of how far they’ve come in the first season. There were plenty of new aspects set up already for the season, though. It was nice to see the chemistry between Annie and Ben as they got to share a few brief moments of happiness together (leaving us torn between whether we’re Team Ben or Team Jai) and it was both amusing and endearing to see the tension and jealousy between Ben and Jai for Annie.

Yet again, Covert Affairs presented itself as the perfect mix of laughs and heartache, simultaneously hinting at the drama to come this season. One of the closing scenes with Arthur and Ben is enough to hook any recreational viewer and leave loyal viewers on the edge of their seat.

But of course no episode could really be complete without our favorite CIA hangout, the Tavern. Despite the charming and exciting interactions between a variety of characters within the episode, the show smartly ended by returning to our favorite hangout with our favorite duo of all: Annie and Auggie.

This is definitely an easy series to get hooked on. Trust us, it’s worth the addiction!

Covert Affairs airs Tuesdays at 10/9C on USA Network.
