Weeds - 10 PM Showtime - Season 8 Premiere
The WEEDS season finale was punctuated at a family dinner
by a fateful bullet from a lone gunman. Which of our beloved
Botwins was the target and who pulled the trigger? Last
season jumped ahead three years and picked up with Nancy
finishing a stint in federal prison. She, her brother-in-law
Andy (Justin Kirk) and sons, Silas (Hunter Parrish) and
Shane (Alexander Gould) – with Doug (Kevin Nealon) in
tow – were reunited in New York City where she re-launched
her pot business, worked at a hedge fund, and fought for
custody of her son, little Stevie, from her sister Jill
(special guest star Jennifer Jason Leigh).
Episodes - 10:30 PM Showtime - Season 2 Premiere
The second season of EPISODES picks up four months after
the finale with Sean (Stephen Mangan) and Beverly (Tamsin
Greig) no longer living together, but forced into an awkward
working relationship with Matt, as Pucks! goes from a
pilot to full-blown series. As Beverly struggles to save
her marriage, Matt is determined to save his “bromance”
with Sean, and all of them are forced to try to save Pucks!
as its ratings start to plummet and the pressure mounts.
EPISODES centers around Sean and Beverly, a husband–and-wife
producing team who are forced to navigate the many pitfalls
of the Hollywood television business when their successful
British show is brought to America, and the U.S. network
insists on making the show more audience friendly by replacing
their venerable thespian lead with…Matt LeBlanc. Season
one left off with Beverly and Sean’s comedy, Lyman’s Boys,
mangled beyond recognition by the Hollywood powers-that-be
into Pucks!, a sitcom about a high-school hockey coach
starring Matt LeBlanc. When Beverly sleeps with Matt in
a moment of drunken madness, her marriage is left as battered
as the state of their TV show.
Shark Wranglers - 10 PM History - Series Premiere
World-class fishermen and ocean explorers risk life and
limb doing a job no one else on the planet has even attempted
– conducting hands on research of massive Great White
Sharks in a dangerous, high stakes attempt to save them
from oblivion. Pre-eminent ocean explorer and elite fisherman
Chris Fischer is on a quest to decode the secrets of the
deadliest creatures in the ocean in SHARK WRANGLERS, a
new series premiering Sunday, July 1 at 10 p.m. on HISTORY.
The series chronicles the most ambitious shark expedition
in history. The crew must track down the world’s most
deadly – yet threatened – sharks, maneuver them onto the
cradle of their 126-foot boat in rolling waters, and tag
each one – by hand. Their goal is 50 sharks in 40 days
– a near impossible mission that will test the team’s
resolve as they battle through every conceivable setback.
The setting for the expedition is South Africa, home
to giant great whites. Fischer and his elite team are
the only people in the world who tag sharks this way.
Once they hook a shark, they maneuver it onto a watery
platform next to the ship, then risk life and limb jumping
into the water with the shark and raising the cradle so
the shark can be tagged and studied. This hands-on approach
allows them to attach transmitters that deliver data for
years instead of months. The various studies include one
that could help develop antibiotics for shark bites, potentially
decreasing the fatality rates from secondary infection.
The process puts Fischer and his crew in danger, as they
must steer clear of the shark in its own domain, while
working quickly to protect the shark itself.

Web Therapy - 11 PM Showtime - Season 2 Premiere
Season two of WEB THERAPY returns with Lisa Kudrow as
“Fiona Wallice,” the self-professed and self-serving psychotherapist
who treats patients in three minute sessions via webcam.
Some of the biggest names in film and television will
guest star in the new season, including Meryl Streep,
Rosie O’Donnell, Conan O’Brien, Molly Shannon, Minnie
Driver, Selma Blair and former “Friends” castmate David
Schwimmer, who will appear in four episodes playing the
son of a professor Fiona had a romantic encounter with
in college. Lily Tomlin returns as Fiona’s judgmental
mother; Dan Bucatinsky will continue his role as Fiona's
assistant-turned-ghost-writer; and Victor Garber returns
as her husband Kip, whose double life proves quite challenging
to Fiona. The eleven, half-hour episodes of season two
find Fiona playing the woman-behind-the-man in Kip’s political
campaign while juggling her burgeoning career as an author
and continuing to advise the hapless clients who have
wandered into her web.
Marina Abramovic' The Artist is Present - 9 PM HBO
- HBO Documentary Film
Seductive, fearless and outrageous, Marina Abramovic'
has been redefining the meaning of art for nearly 40 years.
Using her own body as a vehicle, pushing herself beyond
her limits, and at times risking her physical safety,
she creates performances that challenge, shock and move.
From first-time director Matthew Akers, MARINA ABRAMOVIC'
THE ARTIST IS PRESENT follows “the grandmother of performance
art” as she prepares for a major retrospective of her
work at Manhattan’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) in 2010,
highlighted by a new exhibit that is breathtaking in its
simplicity: two chairs facing each other, with Abramovic'
sitting in one and audience members taking turns sitting
in the other, gazing into each other’s eyes in silence.
In true Abramovic' style, she remains in the chair for
seven and a half hours each day – every day the museum
is open for three months – without eating, drinking or
moving, a feat of mental and physical endurance that is
challenging even for a veteran of such performances.

Freud's Naked Truths - 9 PM Smithsonian Channel -
Documentary
Lucian Freud, the controversial grandson of Sigmund Freud,
has been called one of the greatest painters of the 20th
century. His extraordinary portraits— of children, lovers,
gangsters, supermodels, even the Queen of England — pushed
the boundaries of art and broke world records at auction.
They also enraged sitters and ended friendships. The royal
photographer for The Times of London was so incensed by
Freud’s picture of the Queen that he said Freud should
be thrown from the Tower of London.
The story of his life and work is the subject of FREUD’S
NAKED TRUTHS, a new hour-long documentary premiering Tuesday,
July 3 at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Smithsonian Channel.
Freud, who died last summer, was notoriously elusive.
Shortly before his death, however, he gave his full backing
to this documentary. The film includes the only known
footage of him painting on what turned out to be the last
day he ever worked.
Timed to coincide with the arrival of a comprehensive
Lucian Freud exhibition at the Modern Art Museum of Fort
Worth, Texas, FREUD’S NAKED TRUTHS is both a definitive
biography and a revelatory exploration of the creative
process of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century.
The exhibition travels from Britain’s National Portrait
Gallery, where it was the most popular paying show ever,
staying open until midnight due to popular demand.
FREUD’S NAKED TRUTH’S includes candid stories from those
who knew him and loved this remarkable personality. Members
of his large family (he had at least fourteen children
by a number of different women), and close friends – including
Pop artist David Hockney, his sitters, his former lovers
and models – recall for the first time a complex man who
dedicated his life to his art and who, perhaps unsurprising
for the grandson of Sigmund Freud, focused an unflinching
eye into the physical and psychological frailties of his
subjects. He rejected the artistic fashions of his time,
sticking to figurative art and portraiture, especially
uncompromising nudes, with a depth of scrutiny that produced
some of the greatest works of our time.
Freud only achieved celebrity in his older age and was
largely ignored in America until 1987, when the Smithsonian’s
Hirshhorn Museum mounted a major exhibition of his work,
after it had been turned down by several American museums.
It propelled him on the international stage, and Freud
would go on to see his art fetch record amounts at auction,
including “Benefits Supervisor Sleeping,” which sold at
Christie’s in New York for $33.6 million.

“Matt Braunger: Shovel Fighter” – COMEDY
CENTRAL Original Stand-Up Special (World Premiere) Saturday,
July 14 from 11:00 p.m. – Midnight
Comedian and “lightning rod for awkwardness”
Matt Braunger takes the stage in his first-ever one-hour
COMEDY CENTRAL original stand-up special, “Matt Braunger:
Shovel Fighter.” With his enthusiastic style and maybe even
a little singing and dancing, Braunger lays out his genius
business ideas for a strip club women will really want to
visit, a frighteningly realistic frozen dinner product,
and the world’s most needed new airline. Braunger also imparts
key life advice, explaining the one sound everyone should
learn to recognize, the importance of trusting one’s instincts
to be afraid, and why working in a greeting card store may
not quite be the worst job on the planet.
Dark Matters: Twisted But True - 10 PM
Science - Season Premiere
This summer, SCIENCE returns to the laboratory
to unearth history’s most sinister tales with the second
season of the breakout series DARK MATTERS: TWISTED BUT
TRUE. Hosted by the incomparable John Noble (Fringe, Lord
of the Rings), DARK MATTERS: TWISTED BUT TRUE opens forbidden
research records on the most shocking scientific studies
ever executed. From gruesome lobotomy experiments, to controversial
CIA studies, to spine-chilling accounts of live human transplants,
the all-new season shows that science fact can be stranger
— and even more entertaining — than science fiction. The
six world premiere episodes take audiences inside a real-life
Twilight Zone, where shocking CGI re-creations illustrate
unforgettable tales of genius gone horribly awry. DARK MATTERS:
TWISTED BUT TRUE premieres Saturday, July 14, at 10:00 PM
(ET/PT).
“I’ve always been drawn to historical tales
where great minds take shocking turnsdown unexpected avenues,”
said Noble. “Overactive ambition can transform brilliance
into madness, and DARK MATTERS will take viewers along on
this journey on SCIENCE.”
“DARK MATTERS: TWISTED BUT TRUE was the network’s
breakout hit of last summer. Viewers couldn’t look away
from these unbelievable true stories presented by the one
and only John Noble,” said Debbie Myers, general manager
and executive vice president of SCIENCE. “This series proves
that the world of science features epic rivalries, intense
dramas, and shocking twists so disturbing that they rival
the best that Hollywood has to offer.”
The series premiere features a controversial
look at one of America’s most celebrated figures, asking
the question, “Could Charles Lindbergh have been a Nazi?”
Lindbergh’s fascination with the study of eugenics and Nazi
practices led some historians to believe he was preparing
for an American Nazi uprising. Viewers also will be introduced
to history’s most terrifying tune, the infamous Hungarian
“suicide song.” Believed responsible for more than a dozen
self-inflicted deaths in Budapest, the song was later banned
for 50 years by the BBC, but the legacy of this mortal melody
lives on. Finally, when a tragic accident leaves a man with
a gaping wound, he soon finds himself the unwitting subject
of a live human organ transplant experiment.

to COMEDY CENTRAL with the premiere of his first one-hour
stand-up special, “Todd Barry: Super Crazy.” With his signature
deadpan delivery and the observational style that has made
him an indie favorite, Barry reflects on his history as

audience in Glasgow, Scotland thinks he has magical powers.
Barry also gives viewers important travel tips and explains
what people are really paying for when they order spaghetti
at a restaurant.
An Officer and a Murderer - 8 PM Lifetime
- Lifetime Original Movie
Lifetime will premiere the Original Movie
An Officer and a Murderer, starring Gary Cole (The Good
Wife, Office Space), Laura Harris (Defying Gravity, A Borrowed
Life, 24) and Rossif Sutherland (King, The Con Artist, High
Life), on Saturday, July 21, at 8:00pm ET/PT. The riveting
film is based on the true story of a powerful and respected
military officer who committed numerous brutal crimes and
was eventually brought down by a tenacious small town police
detective.
Based on the true story of one of Canada’s
highest ranking Air Force Officers, Colonel Russell Williams
(Cole), An Officer and a Murderer follows the downward spiral
of this public figure and the determined police work that
brought him in. Colonel Williams and his high-society wife
(Nahanni Johnstone, The Kennedys) were considered one of
Canada’s most respected “power couples,” with two beautiful
homes and high-profile careers. But on February 7, 2010,
the entire nation watched in disbelief as he was arrested
and eventually convicted of his crimes. Starting with a
string of home invasions, Colonel Williams would take women’s
lingerie and photos, later carefully categorizing and labeling
them for his home collection. As he rose up in the ranks
of the military, his lust and power grew and he eventually
put aside all barriers to his deviant impulses, becoming
more and more violent. Ultimately, he received two life
sentences for first-degree murder, as well as concurrent
sentences for sexual assault, forcible confinement and 82
counts of burglary. Brilliant at being stealth and obsessive
in covering all traces, Colonel Williams was able to deceive
his wife, friends, neighbors and even his military comrades
until he was finally outwitted by a small town police detective
(Harris), along with an FBI trained interrogation specialist
(Sutherland), who together worked on the investigation that
put an end to Colonel Williams’ string of disturbing crimes.

Off the Hook: Extreme Catches - 9 PM Animal Planet
- Series Premiere
Showtime Eric Young, an avid yet novice outdoorsman and
professional wrestler, is getting out of the ring and
turning in his tights for some tackle. He’s on the adventure
of a lifetime to hear, smell and taste big and small stories
of the one that got away. All across America, some fisherman
go to extremes to haul in their catch – from using pantyhose
on a rod and reel to catch sharks in the Atlantic Ocean
to launching live bait with fire extinguishers on Lake
Michigan – and Young will try his hand at all of them.
Using all sorts of unique bait, tackle, poles and transportation
(and a little SPF), he is aiming to be the makeshift MacGyver
of fishing while learning the best and most unique techniques
this country has to offer!
Showtime Eric Young is about to embark on the ultimate
amateur angling road trip and quench his thirst for adventure
on Animal Planet’s new series OFF THE HOOK: EXTREME CATCHES.
Premiering Sunday, July 29, at 9 PM (ET/PT), each half-hour
episode follows Young as he crisscrosses the country to
try his hand at various fishing practices, ranging from
wildly dangerous to all-out weird!
From the waterways of New England to the beaches of North
Carolina and from the coasts of Florida to the shores
of California (and everywhere in between), Young is about
to meet his match. Paddleboard and jetski fishing for
sharks? No problem! Underwater spear fishing and nighttime
squid jigging? Easy! Fishing for dangerous alligator gar
or invasive species like snakehead fish and carp? Um,
that might be an issue…
During his quest, he learns an interesting array of
intricate and industrious methods employed by some of
America’s fishing masterminds. And he will come to embrace
odd local traditions practiced for decades and centuries.
And no matter how long it takes, how crazy it seems or
how many bumps and bruises he gets along the way, Young
won’t stop ‘til he catches the ultimate fish, including
the one that got away...
OFF THE HOOK: EXTREME CATCHES showcases some of the hardest
playing and hardest working fisherman in the country,
some of whom have pioneered ingenious and insane methods
of catching fish for both profit and play. During each
episode, Young meets two experts who help him go toe to
toe with some of the biggest (and smallest) fish around.
